Club, located in Kenai, Alaska was founded on the Kenai Peninsula of
Alaska. The club was chartered on Jan. 29, 1966 by the Lions club of
Anchorage, with some 28members. In the early days they meet
every Tuesday at the Royal Redoubt now known as the Kenai Merit Inn. We
sponsored the formation of the Soldotna Lions Club and later the Cook Inlet
Lions Club.
Generally, the Kenai Lions
Club will not make donations to individuals or to organizations for
specific individuals; for travel, prizes or awards-even if youth groups; for
foreign exchange or other such endeavors of individuals. The Club reserves the
right to recognize past practices in determining whether or not to fund any
particular request.

Hurricane Katrina **
Help Needed ** Lions LCIF Provide aide
Lions Foundation Help for
Hurricane Katrina
web site:
http://www.lionsclubs.org/EN/content/lions_lcif_katrina.shtml
This
news story from
Lions
International:
LCIF will do all it can to
help victims recover their lives. LCIF has awarded a US$200,000 Major
Catastrophe Grant to help victims. I also have approved emergency grants for
districts affected by the hurricane. Three US$10,000 emergency grants have
been awarded for Districts 8-O, 8-S 8-I in Louisiana. I expect many
emergency grants to be approved very soon when district governors are able
to contact us.
LCIF has set up a
designated fund for
Lions and others who wish
to help the hurricane victims. Checks can be mailed to LCIF at 300 W. 22nd
St., Oak Brook, IL 60523, USA.
Make the check payable to LCIF and indicate
on the memo line that the donation is for Hurricane Katrina.
All donations for Hurricane
Katrina count toward a club’s and district’s giving totals. (Donations from
U.S. residents also are tax
deductible.) However, these donations are not eligible for Melvin Jones
Fellowship recognition.
As with other large-scale
disasters, I am sure
Lions are eager to assist
victims in various ways besides donating funds. To help facilitate the
expected volunteer efforts of Lions, with the approval of the executive
officers, I have appointed a steering committee of four leading Lions from
the four states most affected by the tragedy to serve as liaisons between
LCIF, Lions in the disaster areas and Lions who want to help.
You should also know that
International
President Ashok Mehta has issued a statement on the
hurricane on the
Lions’ Web site. Please
take a minute to read his words of consolation and encouragement.
Our thoughts and prayers
are with those in the affected areas. Thank you in advance for any
assistance you can provide.
Yours in Service, Clement
F. Kusiak,
2005-2006 LCIF Chairperson

New
Project and 2006 - 2007 Activities: Huss Park Renovation and Others
The Kenai Lions have taken on the renovation and
conversion of a trail into a park like setting with stream, grass, picnic
tables, etc. Work will take several summers to complete.
Kenai Lions Activities 2006-2007
* Old Town Children's Park – A small crew and two city workers completed cleanup for upkeep of the park and marked areas for sidewalk games on Saturday, August 5th. Hotdogs were served after the work was completed. Thank you everyone who made this project a success.
* Industry Days chili cook off – August 26,2006 our club came away with the trophy as the spiciest, the best and the peoples’ choice chili. The Peninsula Clarion did a two page spread regarding the event.
* Soldotna Lions Club Annual Bed Race - September 30, 2006, 2:00pm. Lion Grant and his brother Justin worked on designing the Kenai Lions’ bed for the race. Our bed tangled with the Kenai Peninsula College bed which resulted in our getting fourth place and the college team had to carry their bed over the finish line.
* International Peace Poster Contest - The next Kenai Lions Club meeting will be October 26, 2006 at the Kenai Senior Center for the poster contest from 5:30-8:30pm. The panel of judges are Sandra Lewis, Melinda Hershberger and Lion Grant.
* Mid Winter District 49A - in Kodiak, November 17-19, Wizard of Oz theme. Our club will have three voting representatives present at the event.
* District Governor Doc Myers visit - January 12-13, 2007. Zone 2 Chairman, Lion Phyllis reported that the Governor will visit all the local clubs and will install any new members. We may do a mission at the Challenger Center on Saturday.
