1.  How do I join the Alaska Retired Educators Association.... ?

Go to the Membership page, print out the form and mail it to the address shown on the form.  Thank you for your interest in joining..

2.  Where can I find out more retirement information... ?

Go to our Retired Benefits page, and you will see links to sources of retirement information from the State's web site on benefits, to the Alaska Commission on Aging; and the Government Site for Medicare Information.  It is just one click away.

3.  Why doesn't Social Security benefits apply to Alaska public employees... ?

The Government Pension Offset (GPO) affects many retired public school and higher education employees and impacts any spousal benefits for which you may be qualified. The GPO reduces you spousal benefit by 2/3 of the amount you receive from your retirement pension.

4.  Who is AK-REA... ?

The Alaska Retired Educators Association is made up of local groups, referred to as local Units.  These local Units are spread throughout Alaska, and function with local officers and differing schedules based upon the local needs. They represent anyone that worked in the educational field in Alaska; teachers, secretaries, maintenance staff, councilors, administrators, etc.

5.  What is AK-REA... ?

 

 

The Alaska Retired Educators Association is a nonprofit organization of retired educators whose purpose is to promote the professional, social and economic welfare of all educators.   AK-REA is a member of the National Retired Teachers Association (NRTA).

 

The Alaska Retired Educators Association is made up of local groups, referred to as local Units.  These local Units are spread throughout Alaska, and function with local officers and differing schedules based upon the local needs.

6.   When is the next meeting or local meetings... ?

The AK-REA has an annual meeting. Most local units have monthly meetings.  See our web page titled Local Units for a contact person or meeting times.  Our newsletter also provides that information.
